Please note that I will be retiring at the end of February and therefore am not taking on new clients.

Hello and welcome to Carl Eden Hypnosis.

The website is packed with information about hypnosis and what I offer so do have a good look around and, when you’re ready, just get in touch to arrange your complementary introductory session or book a free, informal phone consultation. We can discuss your issues and you can have an opportunity to ask any questions or voice any concerns, and I will give you an honest opinion on whether hypnosis would be right for you.

A Warm Welcome and a Relaxed, Supportive Environment Awaits...

I’m Carl and I have been helping people to overcome their issues and achieve their goals for over thirty years. I now work to help people rid themselves of old, unwanted, and sometimes debilitating behaviours using a combination of hypnotherapy, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) and life coaching.

People who come to me have often tried everything else with little success. They have often had CBT, counselling or other talking therapy. They call themselves ‘silly’ because they recognise that their issue is not logical but still it persists, however, nothing could be further from the truth. Our beliefs are stored in our subconscious; we cannot wake up one day and decide to change our beliefs. Any changes to our belief system must be done at the subconscious level and this is why hypnotherapy can be so effective.

Alone in all the talking therapies, hypnotherapy works directly with the subconscious mind to reframe our beliefs and therefore change not just what we know but how we ‘feel’.

Whatever your issue, sessions with me are pleasant, informal, therapeutic and very often fun. My practice is also a safe space for LGBTQ+ clients.

What is Hypnosis?

Carl Eden

Hypnosis is simply a state of focus, no more no less. It is totally natural and people will enter a hypnotic ‘trance’ totally spontaneously many times a day.

If you drive, for example, how many times have you arrived somewhere and can’t remember a portion of your journey? You were too busy drifting off in your own thoughts however, crucially, you were still in total control of the car. Similarly when you get engrossed in a good film or book and are emotionally swept away, then that’s hypnosis too. You daydream for half an hour and it feels like five minutes? That’s a form of hypnosis too.

And this natural state can easily be induced and used to communicate with the subconscious mind. It does this by speaking in the language of our subconscious: emotion and imagination. Little about a hypnotherapy session is logical; we work with feelings, images, emotions, thoughts and sensations to create scenarios in the imagination which are understood and taken on board by our subconscious at a deep level in order to make dramatic and long-lasting positive changes.

How Does Hypnosis Work?

If we imagine the brain divided into two halves, the logical side and the emotional side, then it is said that, if there is a conflict between logic and emotion, then emotion always wins out.

People with chronic anxiety, for example, may understand logically that there is nothing to worry about but, emotionally, they still worry and ‘what if…’ Similarly, smokers know logically that their habit has a one in two chance of killing them but, emotionally, they feel that smoking helps them in some positive way. Emotions always win over logic.

What Can Hypnotherapy Treat?

Hypnotherapy is an effective treatment for many conditions which stem from the way we think.

Anxiety and anxiety-related conditions such as panic disorder, phobias, OCD, and IBS are all suitable candidates for hypnosis. In addition, lifestyle issues such as quitting smoking and weight control also respond well to hypnotherapy.

However, you may not be aware that issues such as chronic pain can also be treated very effectively with hypnosis.

You can learn more about what issues can be treated by hypnosis by clicking here.

A Word About Past Life Regression

Many hypnotherapists find tackling past life regression (PLR) uncomfortable, however, I have always found it fascinating and have found that it can be a profound healing tool for the right people.

Because of this, I have studied PLR in some depth and have both a diploma (DPLT) and advanced diploma (adv.DPLT) in this captivating area meaning that I understand both the amazing things that can be achieved and the possible pitfalls and how to deal with them.

Of course, many people seek out a past life regression session merely because they are enthralled by the idea of past lives and would like to see what it feels like to access one. However, even these people get some therapeutic benefit from their session with me.

Choosing a Hypnotherapist

Unfortunately, hypnotherapy in the UK is unregulated which means that anyone can set up as a hypnotherapist and start to treat clients with absolutely no training. It is also possible for a therapist to obtain therapy insurance even if they have only ever undertaken a distance learning paper-based course and may have never actually hypnotised anyone.

This is a grim state of affairs and so it is important, when searching for a hypnotherapist, to make sure they have nationally recognised qualifications in hypnotherapy and that they are a member of appropriate registers and associations only available to those who have undertaken comprehensive face-to-face training.
